Which do you use? What are some things you like and dislike?

I'll list my reasons…
1. The TTS engine on apple's platform is much better, compared to what you get on android out of the box. Voiceover also feels faster to me.
2. An iOS device is much easier to setup if you're blind. For a lot of android devices, you'll need sighted help because every OEM has a different way to turn on talkback.
3. The gestures on iOS are way ahead. You can customize them, and gestures like the magic tap (for calls, media, and dictation) make it so much easier. Basically you double tap on the screen with 2 fingers anywhere on the screen to pause audio, answer a call, or start dictation.
4. With iOS 14, the feature gap between VoiceOver and talkback has only gotten, much, much wider. Voiceover does on the fly image recognition, read unlabeled buttons, and generally make it easier to use apps that are not accessibility friendly.

Apple here played with android once mostly in the early days of it or a handful of years ago and found that it wasn’t as great at accessibility. I find that it is still comparatively behind and doesn’t do as much and provide as much pragmatic efficiency and workability. I find that if you want real accessible solutions apple is the way to go forward.

Yeah I know what you mean like the both of them have some good features but apple keeps up with accessibility much faster I feel like.

Yes, and for them accessibility isn’t an afterthought. Do you know how long it took google to catch up? Apple tries to be on this stuff and wanted blind people to use their products. They considered blind people and have done a good job at that. I think that is a better thing. For me apple seems more inclusive and we can just pick up their products and use it. They want to assure that blind people can use their products like everyone else.

I hope Android will make more improvements to help the people who own there products and are visually impaired or blind to make things easier for them.

That’s for sure. I hope that can be true too. We’ll see though but I think apple is still more responsive.

I’ve only used Apple. I’m used to it since I’ve been an iPhone/iPod user for roughly 15 years and haven’t had the chance to try out Android. I like how fast Apple was in including accessibility features, but I wish their products were less expensive.
BlindBear902 [OP]1 points2y ago
You are so right i know they came out with a cheaper iPhone SE but there still expensive.

Android. I can't afford to buy Apple products. The good thing about it is the fact that it's not so limited. For example, I use ETI Eloquence TTS voice because I'm used to it. On Apple devices as far as I know you are limited to the voices that come with the device, and you can't use third-party voices. The bad thing about it is that the accessibility isn't as good as Apple devices.
BlindBear902 [OP]1 points2y ago
Yeah that's understandable I feel like you can pick up a android phone without having to pay a lot and get some good features for the price .

Android.
Apple is an arrogant company that I shall never give money to.

Apple. I’m really deep into the ecosystem. I tried Android when I was more low vision (just used magnification) and I mean, it isn’t bad but it’s just not for me. I’ve used iOS and macOS since 2010
