I was wondering how other blind/VI people treat minor injuries themselves? Yesterday I fell and scraped up my knee pretty badly. Luckily a family member was around to help me clean and cover it properly. The problem was that there was some dirt that needed to be scrubbed out and I’m not confident that I would have been able to get it all without sighted help. It definitely was not worth going to urgent care and spending $40 on a copay for something so simple. Is this a situation where you would FaceTime a friend or use an app like Be My Eyes to have someone check that the wound is clean? Would you try to find someone who could look at it in person? Would just like to hear your thoughts.

I mean. You kinda answered your own question. Several times I've injured myself and I will take a picture or call if I'm really concerned about it. But other times it's not worth waking someone up at midnight, and I'll just spend a good 10-15 minutes cleaning the wound (I mean it depends on what it is but I'll extend the time longer than I think necessary).
There's also times that I tend to think sighted people are worse at healthcare because they rely so heavily on sight. An example is cleaning dishes. My dad might wash it but when I feel it with my hands I can tell there's still oil or something left behind.

Thanks! Yes, so true about the dishes. Sometimes I’ll feel that something is still dirty and think I should have just done it myself.

How does self care and this stuff require vision. It just requires pragmatic skills. Honestly. I clean it stick on a bandage and done. I am also pretty pragmatic and hands on.
