Where are you located?

First things first, you will need some help addressing life without good vision. Depending on your country there might be some help available.

Now as to the programs for your computer, you need to make it easier for people to help you- when you ask for help with computer we need to know if you are using an Apple or Windows operating system, how old the computer is, and what kinds of things you use it for - surfing the Internet, writing stories, playing games, graphic arts, music, etc.

There are specialized programs you can buy for Windows, and both Apple and Widows allow you to zoom in on things with a magnified view. Google low vision support and your operating system to get the basic controls and explanation.

For me, using Windows I press the Windows Button and the Numberpad Plus key to activate the magnifier. Windows and Escape key shuts it off.

Apple press the CONTROL key while scrolling with mouse or trackpad to zoom in or out.

The program I like best for Windows is called ZoomText. It also has some screenreader capability which might be helpful.

Good luck!

I agree if the vision is going to get worse then training and preparing would be excellent now.

Other commenter are very correct so some general advice from me is to increase the scale settings on your system and use something to replace the mouse pointer with something much larger like Yolomouse.

If your vision will get worse it might be a good time to start learning to use a screen reader. Windows has NVDA for free. Another option Jaws will cost you if you aren’t eligible for help. If you are on Mac then it has a very nice built in screen reader. Command + F5 should activate it. You can also use Siri to activate it. If you use iOS devices you can now use many gestures on the touchpad of the Mac the same as your phone. If you are on Linux then you can get Orca. It is a full featured screen reader. It should be available from most popular distro repos. Distros like Ubuntu Mate have it enabled by default in the installer.

You can also try rolling the mouse roler upward while holding the control button to increase your screen perspective. If no roller is present, hold control button while pressing plus key.

Windows has Windows Magnifier, which can help a little. There is also ZoomText, which acts as a magnifier and has a few other options. Depending on where you live, some places can partially cover the cost for adaptive software.
