Helping the Blind Through Envision (self.Blind)
submitted by skrskrsahbro
Hi!

My name is Sahil, and I am a high school student who is part of an entrepreneurship competition called Diamond Challenge. As part of the challenge, I developed a product called Envision, which can aid the visually impaired. I have passed the first stage of the competition, and I am requesting your help for the final stage of the competition. All you need to do is help me fill out a quick form.

Your help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I thought I should mention, there already is a product called Envision to assist someone with vision loss.

Your last question mentions "This will allow you to walk comfortably without the use of a handicap. "

One of the primary jobs of a white cane is to check for obstacles and hazards in front of the client. That includes things that are in the way (a chair, a sign), but also drop-offs (a curb, a step down, a hole). Unless the product can do that, it isn't a safe alternative to a white cane. That is one of the reasons people have been integrating ultrasonic sensors to white canes. The ultrasonic sensor checks of things in front, but the cane physically feels for drop-offs.

My cane is not a handicap it is a mobility tool.
FYI, language matters and the term handicap is rarely used, in 2021, by professionals and people with disabilities.
