What hobbies and activities do you do for fun?(self.Blind)
submitted by BaylisAscaris
I'm a sighted person but temporarily visually impaired due to a severe eye infection. I'm going a bit crazy from the pain and trying to distract myself from it but I'm having a difficult time doing my regular hobbies because they all either require good vision or I'm not skilled enough to do them without.
So far I've been listening to audiobooks and playing with pets. I might try crocheting. I would love to hear your suggestions for any activities a complete noob can do. I can see a little but everything is very blurry and it's painful to keep my eyes open.
Thank you!

Do you like Marvel movies? All the recent ones have audio descriptions now. For instance, if you want to watch Daredevil, turn on audio descriptions and it will explain the scenery to you so you can picture the scene in your head!

That's a great idea, thank you!

I crochet! Legally blind. Still sort of a struggle but less than other things and feels very productive when you finish something.

I've been crocheting all day while listening to audiobooks. Half way through an octopus hat since I posted this question.

Love that! Most of my life is podcasts/audiobooks and crochet right now.

What are your hobbies as a sighted person? I am blind and I play musical instruments as a hobby.

Art, computer games, gardening when I used to have a yard. Crochet seems to be working okay for me.

If you have downloaded NVDA, the screenreader, check out RS Games which is totally accessible and easy to navigate.

I enjoy doing mix media art and clay modeling. I don't do it enough though. The only gartening I've done has been germinating seeds and then planting the seeds on a box with soil.

listen to podcasts, audiobooks and audiodramas. I like to play stuff on the instruments I have at home too. On pandemic times that's what I do for fun.

What were your previous hobbies? I’m pretty boring. I like to cook and bake, though it’s easy stuff. I like to write and listen to audiobooks. I also like podcasts and music. I like to play D&d.

Well I am a digital artist and also a writer. I’ve been really into poetry lately. I don’t think you need much vision to type a manuscript as long as you know your keyboard

Self development? If you can read and write posts then there are subs here for that introspection requires no sight. Reading may though. But even sighted it’s a good hobby most in the nitch hobby community is sighted I think I am the only blind person there which is a right shame. It’s a really good hobby. Learn about yourself, and what you’re actually made of!!!!!!
Eating foods trying new foods.
Tinker with your technology I don’t know how physical you are. And how techy.
Most of what I do either require vision or being well adjusted.
Typology or reading or learning or self development is the easiest.
Really self-introspection is good unless you’re too afraid of what’s inside you.
