Seriously though, I cook exactly the same as I did when I could see. Only difference nowadays is I taste more while cooking, and I have little QR code stickers on all the sprice bottles so I can read them with the Pen Friend.

Oh tell me more about the QR code thing. Is it an app where you can create your own? I assume you just print it out and stick on whatever object?
mdizak 1 points 2y ago

Not quite, can't print them out. Pen Friend is a little tool you can buy. Here:
https://cecitech.com/en/?product=penfriend-audio-labeller

You get this pen sized object plus a bunch of sheets of QR code stickers of various sizes. Put the stickers on whatever you want, and with the pen you can record a voice message to the sticker. Then later when you touch the pen to the sticker, it'll repeat that voice message to you.

The QR code stickers are reusable too, so you can keep overwriting with new messages all you want. Works great for things like spices, etc.

Thanks! That sounds super useful. For future reference, I found this link that seemed more detailed.

We just do? Know how to work the equipment. Label all the buttons. Memorize or understand where the stuff is or the equipment or the layout. Either exploration or understand it through sensation and common sense. I say sensation but don’t know how to say it besides that, because it’s not intuition it’s more like proprioception. It’s a 6th or 7th sense if you can use it I use it very well. Then put the food in there and cook it. You. Can season it too. And cut it and prepare it. Again knowing how the food is or where to cut is helpful some people need a lot more training some less. Tactile stuff is also helpful and just chop it or whatever you need stir it mix it mince it.

Don’t know how else to do it. For me it’s very instinctual. It’s just something physical I just do.

we cook blindly. I personally make some nice rice and chickenõ

On a real note, I use smell, sound, and time. I also have been servesafe certified, so I know all about proper cooking temps and stuff like that. It's not as hard as one may think.

stove top, oven, instant pot, George Forman grill, toaster oven, fry daddy... shall I go on? lol.

In constant fear you've underdone the chicken.

But in all seriousness, it's like anything, most of it you just do, the parts where you need help you get help, use technology, and so on.

I just made pancakes because it's pancake day here!

Yeah I had one for a while. Problem is the outside layer of the chicken gets hot really quickly so it's easy to get a false result. Didn't get a lot of confidence from it to be honest.
