Possibly time to update my accessible antivirus solution (self.Blind)
submitted by blind_cowboy
For the last 2 years I have been using Windows Defender along side Malware Bytes Premium. It’s coming up on time to renew my subscription to Malware Bytes, I haven’t compared solutions in a while, so I decided it was time.

The only two accessible options with a screen reader I see are Eset and Defender plus Malware Bytes. Having said that the last time I navigated Malware Bytes it was far from perfect.

Are there any accessible solutions I am missing? What are you using and why do you recommend it?

I don't use mallard byte but I do have some vision. I was with McAfee but then switched over to Bitdefender and that has a more much better UI along with give you notifications if camera is being used and microphone there slot more that McAfee didn't have, also read article saying McAfee wasn't as safe or trusted from a lot of IT people.

I mean malwarebytes even if it isn’t super accessible is genuinely about the best consumer grade anti-virus your going to get.

I’m a sighted person so what do I know about accessibility, I am however someone who studies computer science and cyber security and malwarebytes is unironically the best, I use it when torrenting and all kinds of shit that can make you susceptible to malware and it’s always been super good.

If it's not super accessible, is it possible to just set it and forget it? If so I might look into malwarebytes since I plan on moving my torrenting to Windows.

I wouldn’t call it super inaccessible, but I do think it could be better.

Generally yeah you can just set it up and be good to go, but sometimes you might be prompted to approve an update or if you want to do a scan of something in particular like a file you downloaded you’ll need to do it manually. Also if it does find something it’ll ask you what you want to do about it since it’s not just going to delete things without your permission.

Basically yeah it’ll start up when you turn your PC on and it’ll run in the background but a lot of stuff might require manual action
