Seeking Windows Screen Magnifier that doesn't swallow resources. (self.Blind)
submitted by AuxxyFoxxy
hi friends, stargardts person here. i like to use Winfoes Magnifier on a separate, smaller screen that sits below my monitor for magnifying text. It works great for some things like web browsing, but I play a lot of video games. However, it doesn't work for games that use an FPS perspective, because the windows magnifier causes some strange mouse latency that is noticeable when you need precision. In other instances, like strategy games and the like, it usually works just fine except that it seems to be extremely poorly optimized and causes a lot of crashes. I was playing Kenshi recently and the windows magnifier alone caused my whole system to crash, from which I had to do a fairly in depth recovery.

Are there any good magnifier software tools out there? A really great feature is having the option to magnify a specific section of the screen as well, (think for example of there is a chat box in a game, you want that magnified but not necessarily where your mouse is).

If anyone has played eve online, you'd know what I mean when I said there were specific user interface elements I'd be looking to magnify statically rather than having to deal with the jarring magnify-at-cursor tool.

Ohh I've never heard of this! This seems like it will be handy!

That sounds like it fits the bill. I'm gonna check it out.

Only thing I can say is that Zoomtext is probably not an option here considering how sluggish it is just moving around the screen.

The only way I've been able to work around this kind of problem is to upgrade my video card. Can you decrease the colors, resolution, effects, etc on monitor 2 as a first step? I'm not familiar with the games you listed - don't know how realistic changing monitor settings is.

I have pretty high end equipment, I think a lot of it has to do with the software design of the windows magnifier and how it is that it magnifies a segment of the screen. It's just not designed to do much more than read static text unfortunately.

Understood. I have similar issues with in-game chats from Overwatch and Diablo. I hope someone can offer you a a great idea.

I use Glassbrick magnifier for videogames mainly to zoom text and while aiming because you can lock on to crosshair.
But idk if you can magnify specific segments on screen

Have you tried the lens mode in Windows magnifier, or turning it off when you're not using it? I think Windows Magnifier will be your best bet since it's quite light on resources, but if that's not working for you, I'm not sure what else to suggest. I myself to use it for everything, but I admit I haven't played around with it much when gaming. I'm surprised there's a lag though. Is this the latest version of Windows 10? I know magnifier wasn't that useful until recently.

Yes, the issue is that windows Magnifier does not run well with games and isn't well optimized. There's no way to deal with the mouse latency either as far as I can tell. Magnifier also only actually captures at like 10 frames per second which isn't useful for gaming either.

That is super weird, I’ve run it off my computer with a NVIDA Geoforce 1060 TI and have had no latency issues. Having nothing else running and making sure your configuration is allotting the correct amount of resources may help. I had to disable my intel graphics and use NVIDA only when Windows Magnifier was crashing Adobe software after the recent update, so maybe doing something like that for your graphics card can help
