Just wondering is anyone else here not an auditory learner?(self.Blind)

A lot of people seem to be, and a lot of sighted people assume we’re auditory learners is anyone else simply not. I need something by text or braille preferably braille and I can read it or some etext I go word by word to really get some harder stuff. Also in life I do hear and rely on it a bit but mostly rely on other stuff kinesthetics and proprioception. Or whatever else you use.

And that’s why it’s so important for us to teach braille

Agreed.

I hate audiobooks and podcasts, and the assumption that because I cannot seee I must learn by hearing.

Yeah, I don’t like those either I do a great amount of reading through etext and braille at times but yes. Not a huge fan okay so what if I am a kinesthetic learner or even spacial. Oh.... shocker. Hahaha!

I hate recorded audio, it's literally the worst way for me to learn IMO. When I first went blind it was pushed on me so hard, all I needed was a pen friend and a voice recorder.
Instead, I use my phone where I can interact with the text much more cleanly, and I don't feel like punching myself in the face. Imagine that.

Certainly agree. And yes that gets pushed on everyone oh you’re blind here’s some audio. Er... okay.... sure.... I’ll use this instead okay. You’re blind aren’t you a auditory learner or reader? Uh... no..... sorry, except I am not sorry. Haha! Oh wait you’re blind and can still be a spacial person. Yes sure can.

I have some usable vision, and I’m an extremely visual learner.
siriuslylupin6 [OP]3 points2y ago
Hmm. Interesting one wonders what would happen if you lose all of it but that’s interesting I think I was visual too in a way. Maybe maybe not never saw enough but I liked using my vision a lot! At least the little bit I had.
BeeAlley1 points2y ago
Ideally I don’t lose it lol ...but it takes me much longer to learn something if I can’t draw it out.

Hmmm... interesting hopefully not. It would be interesting to find out how things changes and what channels are then used.

I feel like I was primarily a visual learner when my eyesight was better. It has been a hard transition, but I think I had well-developed auditory learning skills even before they were my primary method for absorbing information. I do not know much Braille, but when I was trying to learn, it came surprisingly naturally to me and felt a lot more like reading with my eyes than audiobooks ever did. Even when I am reading literature with a screen reader, I want to have the text in front of me so that I can easily interact with it by going line by line or checking spelling on unfamiliar words. This is why I hope to get a Braille display and become proficient with Braille one day.

Well you should well have fun with that endeavor

I didn't use to be before going blind, but since I struggle a lot with Braille I had to adapt to audio.

I'm an auditory reader, but not a learner. I like things to be shown to me physically and step by step. I totally get where you're coming from.

I am not even an auditory reader haha! But interesting.

I am absolutely not an audio learner. I have to do the thing, or even better write it out myself by hand (not typing).
