Lots of blind people have jobs, but a disproportionately large percentage don't, compared to the general population.
That's partially due to the challenges of getting proper and effective rehab, partially a result of government aid programs that will give you enough money to survive, but will leave you hanging if you have a low paying job (so it might actually not be worth it to work) and mostly because of discrimination - which mostly comes from ignorance. Good for you for trying to get informed.
You can't actually get a guide dog without being proficient in white cane use. They're not a complete replacement, but a complement.
By the way, blindness and visual impairment exist in a spectrum. All the way from no light perception whatsoever to not bring able to read normal print even with glasses.
