I got myself a gift. (self.Blind)
submitted by bradley22
It's a rooma, hoover/vacume cleaner. This little thing is awesome! The ap is very accessible, although setting up a schedule is a bit tricky.

I had to have my grandad put the thing on the charger but once that was all done, it took about a minute, using the rooma is fine. You just double tap on new job, then go and it's off.

It cleans very well and I think it's one of the best things a blind person can own.

If you have an amazo not echo device, there's a skill for that vacuum cleaner.

It’s for the echo too.

How does it do with lots of wires?
bradley22 [OP] 4 points 2y ago
You need to move them out of the way or put the wall thing there. My one didn’t come with one so you might have to buy it, I’m not sure about the newest models though but I do know they come with a remember map feature.

Interesting.... thanks yeah, I wasn’t sure but fascinating trying to figure out if it would be all that useful to me.

I really like it :)

Oh nice.

I've been thinking of one for our kitchen. It's a linoleum floor and our cats track litter...plus scraps from cooking !

Will your Roomba move by itself from uncarpeted surfaces to carpet? I'm wondering how it is with kitty hair...
bradley22 [OP] 2 points 2y ago
I believe so, I think the latest s rumbas will do that.

I only have one room to worry about.

Perhaps you can get a sighted person to view a video with you.
Autumnwood 1 points 2y ago
Thank you. I'm sighted but whoa the issues with one of my eyes and the doctor said within ten years it may start in the other eye. I'm also older and things are getting a little more difficult in general. So I'm always looking for things to help ease tasks, and one of these roombas seem like that. I will take your advice and look at some videos. I'm also here in this forum for the technology tools and other ideas to help me with my impaired vision. I love this subreddit. Everyone is so kind and helpful to one another.

No problem.

Very cool review. I have been considering getting one of these for myself. Do you mind sharing the model number of the one that you got?☺️
bradley22 [OP] 2 points 2y ago
Sure, it’s a 900 series, I don’t think it really matters what one you get, although I have heard the S series has some issues.

No tripping over it? Does it make a noise?
bradley22 [OP] 1 points 2y ago
It does make a noise and you can use a button in the app to find the robot. Once pressed; it'll make noise until you press the big button in the middle, the clean stop clean button.

As for tripping over it,, I've not done that, it goes back to its charging dock once it's complete which is great for us.

It's a bit fiddley putting it on the dock so you might want a sighted person to do that for you, once it's done the first time, there's a go home button after you've cleaned whatever you want to clean so you can use that. If you let it do a full clean; it'll go home by itself.

Sounds amazing and great that the app seems to work really well with it

I guess ‘be my eyes’ could support with placing back on dock if no one around?

Thanks for info, really interesting!
bradley22 [OP] 1 points 2y ago
Maybe but you’re better off with a sighted person. You only have to do it once.

It truely is amazing and the future of robotics is too.

Yeah that makes sense!
Glad it’s working out,
Thanks for the appraisal,
