Accessible tabletop gaming (self.Blind)
submitted by YoYo31415
Is anyone into boardgames? Not like Monopoly or casual party games...the more niche/hobbyist ones? My friends/family are into heavy Euros, strategy games, historical wargames, etc. I’m wondering what might be doable for me without a massive headache. I’ve done RPGs, but I’m thinking more like tabletop kinda stuff. Any ideas or favorites?

Check out 64ozgames website. They make accessibility kits for games.

There is also a discord server you might want to look into, lots of knowledgeable people there.

I do DnD and highly recommend it. I have my friends with me assist in rolling the dice and positioning my character. That being said, it was very challenging at first. I was stubborn with doing things only by myself. You know that hard headed " I got this " blind guy.
It took me a little bit to accept my friends help. That's my own personal issue so don't be afraid of a helping hand.
Also if you do take it up. Go simple. Barbarian or a fighter works wonders.

Good idea, I like dnd a lot, but I don’t have time for a campaign that meets regularly. I was thinking more of one of stuff, but maybe I’ll have to get back into it...I haven’t played since 3.5 lol. I’m with you on the wanting to do it myself thing though...my 6yo played Solar Storm (cooperative game, thankfully)with me the other day and kept having to read me all the symbols on the room cards. He didn’t mind, but now I’m motivated to memorize it all so I don’t have to keep asking!

Any favorites you can recommend? I have vision but it gives me a massive headache, so I prefer to use it for situational awareness rather than reading stuff off cards. I’m learning Braille but I’m still learning the alphabet so it’s no help yet. Is there such a thing as online databases with game card descriptions that a screen reader could help with as I play? Or do people make their own for games they play a lot? Sorry if that’s a dumb question, this is a new challenge for me. Wondering what other people do.
