Why not do something like a monthly community thread stickied at the top of this sub? Just chatting, no research or questions for the blind hivemind.

I don't think it would be a very high traffic one. Not many blind and visually impaired people use Reddit.

I’m not necessarily against the idea, but the trick will be to get enough people and posts to keep it from dying while also keeping it from devolving into the free-for-all that you don’t want.

I’ve also wondered about the types of topics posted in this sub. I’m guessing they can be broken down into these buckets:

1. Emotional support
2. Medical-related questions
3. Tech, games, products, podcasts, videos
4. Research requests

It could be a matter of setting better rules on posting or restricting the types of posts. I know other subs require flair to distinguish the post types. The FAQ could be expanded upon.

I kind of skip over the research and gaming posts. I’m interested in threads about coping, supporting others and laughing about blind-only experiences. I also like coming across media that are created by and for blind people.

But perhaps a better platform (monthly zoom, some kinda chat, etc) would be better?

I would support this, but as another poster has said, we would need to spread the word about it so that it doesn't die from disuse.
