Questionnaire (self.Blind)
submitted by teamvisual
Hey Everyone,

For a project that we are working on in college we need to gather some preliminary data among the visually impaired community. Would a few people be able to participate by completing the short questionnaire in the link below?

Thank you.

Do you have IRB approval? Which college? Where's some more context for the project? What preliminary research have you done?

Blind people aren't your guinea pigs. I would recommend having answers to these questions in your post before answering this. Also, if you haven't sought IRB approval, I would advise others against filling this out--if you don't know how your answers are going to be used, that's generally a bit worrisome.

Wow I find some of those question pretty disrespectful. A little research on your end and you wouldn't have had to ask them.

Example, I'm not the Sentinel my senses do not get stronger just because I'm losing my vision.

Losing my vision has no effect in my ability to understand or reason.

More ignorance then disrespect. I would say.

Hi there,

Apologies if this questionnaire came off as disrespectful. The purpose of this questionnaire was to obtain individualized opinions to develop our questions for future interviews. We intend on furthering our research based on the desires and feedback we receive from the community.

We hope to work closely with this community and become as informed as possible. From the feedback that we received, there have been many mixed answers between whether or not other senses became sharper. Its a difficult matter to quantify which is why personal opinions are justified for our preliminary research.

Once again, we don't mean any disrespect and only want to further our understanding of the community as a whole.

Best,

Team Visual

I’ll help. Though I recommend you define your question a bit more clearly.

Didn’t someone else ask these things on another thread or asked people to fill out a questionaire. Then private messaged me this exact form.

Hey there, we are pretty new to reddit and weren't sure on how we would get in contact with more people from the community. Thank you for sharing your insight with us.

Patience. I also think in this sub especially a lot of this research is very unpopular. Sometimes these posts get slim picking for comments and a lot of it is negative. A lot of people are very hackneyed by this type of research. And I tried to explain that to one of your teammates. I tried to help him out as well. But basically there’s a lot of researchers trying to come on to do the same project or similar ones. There’s also a lot of people coming on to research blind people. Maybe not in the total mass of projects in the country but there’s a lot on here. And people can get really grumpy and silly about it. The response rate isn’t that good on here and you get some but a lot. And some of the response is to complain about the survey.

I answered the survey as best as I could and tried to explain things.
