Does anyone have any experience using or navigating in a unix program?
SqornshellousZ 2 points 2y ago
It's a unix system! I know this... $1
Winnmark 2 points 2y ago
I don't think this is realistic. The user interface would look a little different.
ColonelKepler 4 points 2y ago
It actually *was* a Unix system called $1, using an application called [FSN](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fsn_(file_manager)). So technically correct, it's just a weird thing to say. Kind of like, "This car has an engine!"

Uh... wow.

Shh... Don't let the cat out of the bag.
Winnmark 2 points 2y ago
Well, there's a whole dinosaur thing, but you know, potato potato.
MostlyBlindGamer 2 points 2y ago
Oh yeah, I guess that might be more important.

Yeah, I've only run Linux on my local PC for a good decade now. It's all I use.

Anything you need help with?

I am curious, How do you do that with speech and keeping up with the terminal output? being able to browse back etc?
mdizak 1 points 2y ago

You just get used to it. For things like system logs, or when compiling things from source, et al... there's flat rewview available in screen reader.

Press dash key (top right key on num pad) to enter flat review, then with the num pad you can navigate around in terminal. For example:

7 and 9 = Line up and down
4 and 6 = Left and right one word
1 and 3 = left and right one character

And so on.

I'm on MacOS and program, run things, and navigate my system via Terminal every day just using VoiceOver. Works great for me.

I am sorry, I am using a unix system at work and it's been a rather steep learning curve. Never used anything like this before armed my tech friends couldn't give me any learning tips so I thought I'd ask

No, no. I know what you're talking about. I'm a washed up computer science major.

What are you trying to do exactly? You might be better off running this in Linux.
