Just wanted to share my blindness story (self.Blind)
submitted by Criptedinyourcloset
Hey guys, I have shared this story in a couple comments of a couple other posts, but I decided to make an individual post just for it. I have a slew of a conditions like glaucoma, peters anomaly, and a bunch of others. My conditions are very unstable and I have been in the process of losing vision since kindergarten. From the ages of kindergarten to third grade I could read print, and I had no proper burial instruction until I moved to Colorado to the Colorado school for the deaf and the blind.

All of my vision in my right eye was lost around second grade due to a retina detachment. So it’s only the vision in my left eye that is fading out now. My teachers here have been really supportive and I’ve been helping me prepare for finally losing side. I am 13 now and in seventh grade, I am on my last leg of usual vision. I’m noticing changes around once a month and I expect within the next year or so, I won’t have vision anymore. Anyone who’s gone through these experiences, do you have any advice for a blind person about to depart the world of remaining vision?

I am open to any questions or clarifications, thank you guys so much.

hey dude! So there's a lot of advice I can give, but first off I wanted to say that I actually live right in Colorado Springs. I'm completely blind, 22, I live alone and independently. Feel free to ask me any questions you may have, I lost my sight when I was 8, so I can understand what you're going through. I also have a Youtube channel if you want to get a feel for who I am. Regardless, the main thing you can do is prepare yourself and be proactive. Learn how to read braille, learn how to navigate independently, and familiarize yourself with TTS software on your preferred platform. Anything after that is just being resourceful.

Thanks, nice to see another Colorado non-read it. Thank you so much for the advice. You know, since I’m going to the school already, I’m already doing most of these things. But it’s nice to get some reinforcement that is that’s what I can do. To know that what I’m doing and I would I am putting my time and effort towards for a going to be worth it. Again thanks a lot.
