Horrible dr? Opinion (self.Blind)
submitted by aswim01
I have cortical vision loss from brain bleed and brain surgery/ high intercranial pressure, usher syndrome type 2D, macular degeneration, ROP stage 3 and a plus disease, among a few others. I currently have only light perception.

I went to a new dr (my regular dr couldn’t get me in at the time) and he had a resident see me as well. When I was in the office with my mother and my guide dog my guide dog at one point stood up, my mother told me the dog did(out loud the drs heard) so I told my dog to lay back down. I have been visually impaired most my life so when someone is talking to me I know to look at there voice and I can sometimes make eye contact for short periods. Well when I got the notes from the appointment the dr put in he suspects I have functional vision loss(essentially faking my eye issues) even tho I have VEP’s, ERG, etc to prove my eye problems from another dr. I am was so mad I called and asked why they put that in the sheet. They’re answer...I knew when my guidedog stood up, knew how to sign my signature on a piece of paper when my mother moved my finger to the spot to sign and I was able to make eye contact sometimes.
What the heck never been to a eye dr that bad before.

Ive had a Dr. lik that before but in a very different occasion. He wasn’t my doctor I go to see but a Dr. to see me bc something happened (I won’t say in case someone went through this and it was traumatic to them) but I ended up in the ER and a doctor didn’t know I was legally blind so he told me to cover the eye I can’t see out of and follow his finger I tried to but he then raised his voice bc I wasn’t.I didn’t know what to do but anyway after that happened he said that I didnt have a (simple, excited, interesting, zebras, understand, rich, elephants)I do ridiculous things for others sometimes😁

Yes it was a neuro ophthalmologist resident who put that down

Only a neuro-opthalmoligist can diagnose yond, and t shouldn't ordinarily beest pondered at which hour thee has't so many conditions detectable with a did slit lamp

Some doctors just have more knowledge and care when it comes to working with patients. I’ve had 2 experiences with neuro-ophthalmologists at learning centers. The first involved an optokinetic drum which is sometimes used to tell if someone is faking it.The head doctor had the residents run it on me twice. In addition, they asked me weird questions about how I got around. The second is an LHON specialist who has a fellow working with him. He is much more thorough and methodical in his approach. I definitely could tell how the trainees mimicked their mentors.

Jail had worse ones. Because I could comb my hair, that somehow meant I wasn't seriously disabled so they sent me to the branch. Thank god I didn't die.

My eye doctor who is still considered a great specialist by many people didn't want to tell my parents what my problem was untill my mum asked her about eye surgery. only then did she send me to do more eye tests. Later I found out that that doctor only really helps people she likes.
