Blind Musicians Of Reddit: What software do you use to create music? (self.Blind)
submitted by Revolutionary-Roll19
Hello everyone,

I'm completely blind and I really want to start making music. I have a keyboard which I can record parts of a song so it can sound like an orchestra. Recording is no problem at all. the problem is, that I am unable to find a software that is accessible with JAWS 2018. I have searched and tried softwares like Audacity, GoldWave, Reaper ETC. None of those were accessible. I need a software that can:

• Put certain parts together (like strings 1 and strings two)

• Add a part in a certain time (For example, piano part is 1 minute long, I want to add a flute part in second 23)

• Control the volume of certain parts.

I use Windows 10 and JAWS 2018. The cost of the software doesn't matter.

Any help is highly appreciated. If you have a helpful answer, Please comment it here or message me.

Thank you very much and have a wonderful weekend,

You can do that in reaper. You need to get osara and there are scripts for some plugins like kontakt, also native instruments komplete is very accessible and it's getting better. Check out kk-access.com and access4music.com There is a website for reaper too, but I don't remember the adress. google reaper accessibility.

There are a few options. On mac, you have more though. Reaper, as somebody mentioned, is probably the cheapest as it has a 60 day trial to try it out. Logic pro is also accessible, and I believe still has a 90 day trial you can grab off apples website. I personally prefer logic over reaper, but thats just me. Pro tools is also totally usable, there are scripts called flow tools that enhance the workflow for us blind or visually impaired users. There are whats app groups and email lists for all of these, plus reaper and logic have dedicated sites to help get started (pro tools has a bit though not as much). Honestly, I think if you like playing around with the keyboard, your best bet would probably be logic. It comes with about 60 gigs of midi patches, thats more than enough to get started. Plus there is tuns of good stuff you can find that is either free or reasonably priced. Can always message me to know more, I'm a big pro tools as well as logic user, with some reaper experience as well.
Edit: I failed to read that your a jaws user. In that case reaper is probably your best bet, however samplitude is also an option, there are jaws scripts for that as well. I will leave the mac info here though in case anyone else is curious about music technology. Always glad to help out. :)

Reaper is accessible, but you need to add the Osara plugin to make it accessible. That plugin uses a standard interface to the Windows accessibility systems, so your version of JAWS shouldn't matter.

Here you go :) see if you can get it working, if not, poke me
