Does anybody know where to find a talking pedometer?(self.Blind)
submitted by AlbertaNorth1
My grandma has lost nearly all vision but still likes to walk around the walking paths around her home. She tries to get 10,000 steps in a day but wants to know for sure how many she’s getting. I tried google but all I can find are smart watches that need to be connected to an app and even if she could see the phone she’d have no idea how to use it.
Are there any pedometers available that will just tell you a step count with a button push? A watch would work but it would have to be minimal buttons or shed just get frustrated and never use it.

If she has an iPhone you could turn on the accessibility settings for apple health so she can ask it to read off her data.
You may have to help her set it up. But it should be simple enough to use.

it's probably way more expensive than what you're looking for, but I just checked my samsung active 2 smart watch and it does let me check my steps using Bixby (samsung version of Alexa or Siri), so I just need to turn the screen on with a button press, and say "hello bixby" and then "How many steps have I taken today?"
There is some initial setup on the watch that may require a smartphone and/or sighted assistance.
