Trying to make discord server more accessible (self.Blind)
submitted by lupus_draconis
Hello all, I have a discord server related to my creative works. Our main product is an audiobook, and we have some blind fans who have joined the server. I want to make sure that our server is as accessible as possible, but I'm very much new at this and unsure of what options are available.

I wanted to ask if anyone has suggestions for what could be done to help. I know that including descriptions of any images would help (and I couldn't seem to find anything to allow alt text aside from commenting below an image), but is there anything else I can do?

Not much you can do. Most of the improvements has to be on Discord's end.

Navigation is more easier on $1 with the iOS app rather than desktop.

Once I find it I’ll reply to this post with a Discord tutorial on how to use it with a screen reader for windows, the iOS app is the least accessible but the android app I heard is quite accessible with screen readers.

The iOS app is very accessible actually. More so than it's desktop counterpart.

Thank you! I have tried using a screen reader for windows with it, but I haven't tried with Android yet.

Do you have any suggestions for things I can do within the server to make for a better screen reading experience? Right now the most I can think of is preventing typos as much as possible, no fancy or spaced-out text, and descriptions with every image. If there's anything I've missed, I'd love to hear it!
