Woah, woah, woah, take a deep breath..... A lot of that was one LONG sentence that got confusing. You are asking where to buy a Perkins. I truly have no idea about buying one. but have you gotten in touch with your local division for the blind? Or the National Federation of the Blind? They will know WHERE to get one. They may be able to get one free for you! My local Division of the Blind gave me a CCTV monitor/camera system, to enlarge print, for free, and these things can easily cost $1,500 and up. I would ask you local agency for the blind to help you. Perkins Braille Writers are not something usually listed on, say, ebay, or Craigslist.... so a local or state agency is a great place to start.
Have you learned how to read Braille? Have you learned beyond that and used a slate and stylus? So you know that when you do use one, everything you 'write' is backwards? Braille is not easy for those of us who didn't learn it when we were kids. Beyond that, have you actually used a Perkins? Because using one is nothing like using a slate and stylus. The Perkins is a LOT faster, BUT it is much more difficult to learn. It's basically a typewriter that types in Braille. I used to know a LOT of blind people, but only a handful knew how to use a Perkins. It does not have many keys on it like a regular typewriter, so the learning curve is really steep.

I think I'm going to get it but it sounds like my mom probably won't let me and it's not something I need so later on once I get further along in my Braille studies I'll look.

Sadly know that Ben wasn't me, because I haven't asked other people involved yet I'm a hoe. I can purchase back one because I know how to use it somewhat, and if need be I can look it up on YouTube and have a refresher course.
