Exposing SSI (youtube.com)

The unfortunate fact is that SSI/SSDI for disabled people is meant to be a safety net for those of us that can't afford to live without it.

It's not a scheme to make sure disabled people stay poor, it's a program that makes sure that disabled people who are too poor to meet a certain (very low) standard of living can afford to meet our most basic needs. It's not perfect, it would be great if there weren't so many stipulations, but it's the system that we currently have (I don't think this is the right forum to debate why we have this system).

Props to this lady for using social media to vent about her frustrations and blow off some of her stress, it's not healthy to keep these things bottled up inside and dwelling on them.
But I don't think she is "Exposing SSI" by any means.

I agree that it SHOULD be used like welfare. The problem is the Sword of Damocles-like effect of losing our medical coverage. Basically, if I could work (damn lungs,) I'd have to go from disability to a job that paid as much AND gave me medical coverage. The money is bupkis. My wife made more when she part-timed. But if I don't get my proair and albuteral, I will straight up die.

Not everyone here has that immediate of health needs so for them, this is fine. But for those of us who do, the disabled disabled folk if you will, my Sword of Damocles comparison is apt.

I wish you luck. For me, the guy sharing the video as opposed to the girl who made the video, it was my lungs that completely screwed me and nobody who should have bothered to tell me until I was 28 and they had gotten much worse.
