Hey Everyone. I'm a programmer who's looking to build a tool to make web navigation easier. would love it if I could speak to some people over discord to get some ideas on what features to implement! (self.Blind)

Can you give more information about what you want your tool to do? There is already a robust collection of screen readers with a lot of features. I would recommend you research how they work if you want your web tool to not be redundant. If you want your efforts to be more widely-used, you can write scripts in JAWS, for example, which is already widely used.

that's fair. Basically, it looks like almost all screen readers I've seen follow the same underlying principle of reading the entire web page, which for something like ordering online can be a huge hassle. I wanted to make that more intuitive by allowing users to go straight to the important things on the web page.

I know I'm keeping things vague but that's the general idea.

To adequately address the problems that blind people face, you need to become familiar with those problems, so I suggest spending several hours using just a screen reader (no mouse, touchpad or touchscreen). It'll be hard, but whether you can persevere or not is a guide as to whether you're determined to make good assistive technology or just to make something that blind people never asked for and don't actually need and that'll make you feel like you did your good deed for the month.
