I used to be able to play handhelds at one time and other types of genre of games and now the only thing I get is dizzy from standing so close to the screen or Having my chair close to the tv. How do you feel about not being able to play video games or not as much as you’d like ?

Do you know that many games these days have accessibility features for people who struggle with similar things: reduced motion, fixed camera angles, etc. You may find that useful. Let me know if you have any questions!

Used to feel bad for not being able to play World of Warcraft, which was by far the game I spent most time on before my vision issues began, but almost 11 years after the last time I logged in to the game I'm beginning to let go.

Yeah when you can’t do much about the situation I feel like it is easier to move on but always remember the good times.

I know how you feel, I went through a bit of a depressed phase last year when everyone played Minecraft and animal Crossing together…
I still play the games that work with screen readers when I can find them but it’s really not the same. When I was little I had a game boy color, and then a Nintendo DS, then a 3DS, iPod touch, Nintendo Wii, and about 50 games on steam. I miss playing these so freaking much… Especially since I started playing Minecraft back in 2010 and I only stopped when my vision got to a really bad point around 2018.
Fortunately something I still play a lot is the jack box party pack’s! I put the streams on my television and play along using my phone. But man I felt really left out when it seemed like the entire world came together to play games during quarantine… So yeah that was not great.
Something I do really want to learn how to play tabletop role playing games! So if anyone on here would like to teach me please please reach out :-) I really need to get my spirits up and I hope this discussion thread can help me find new creative ideas to get me out of this slump.

Yeah the handheld games were so popular for many years and great games were made onto them. I played so much Pokémon on the gameboy advance that now I couldn’t ever imagine being able to play something that small ever again. I’m gonna try to get into some Movie watching especially since I really do love horror movies. I did play a lot of Minecraft as well and would enjoy watching the YouTube videos of peoples game play. It just takes time and I know you’ll find a area that excites you in gaming again soon.

that is true, I am so thankful that YouTube exists! Actually I’ve been watching dozens of different Youtubers since like… I don’t know 2011? My two favourites are Markiplier and Jacksepticeye. They are both so good at describing games and creating stories with them.
and definitely watch movies and TV shows! I turned on audio description for Netflix, Disney+, and even on my cable box. Of course not everything is described but there are so many that are so no complaints since i’m going to be busy for a long long time.
fun fact, someone is actually working on a Minecraft mod that basically turns it almost completely audio Described! I’ll see if I can find the video again but it was really interesting to listen to.
I’d like to know what are/were some of your absolute favourite games? I always love learning about new activities and maybe I can even find some fun suggestions?

Yeah I’m so thankful for YouTube they have such great content just wish there was less ads but there is a fee that is required which is understandable. I watched a lot of anime it always seemed to remind me of games and I always enjoyed them. I watched Naruto in the past along with dragon ball z. Some of the games I really enjoyed was phantasy star universe and RuneScape and most of the call of duty games. I never got into Skyrim but lots of people tend to enjoy those types of games. I’ve always heard great things about dungeons and dragons. Mortal Kombat was always a fun along with street fighter and easy to play. Yeah audio description is a great thing I always enjoyed was listening to sports in the radio it was still entertaining while having a few beers.

I miss my action and Shira video games on my consuls from over the years, Nintendo 64, in tendo game cube, PlayStation two, which are Xbox and Xbox 360
BlindBear902 [OP]1 points2y ago
Those were great consoles lots of memories.
ginsenshi1 points2y ago
Yes they were, actually try and get back into consuls with emulators. Just recently got a MacBook Air M1 and a PlayStation 4 controller replacement hopefully it will go well
BlindBear902 [OP]1 points2y ago
Yeah it can be tough so I try and game with friends online with PlayStation. I have to follow them around in the games like call of duty when we play zombies. Since I get lost in open world games very easily.
ginsenshi1 points2y ago
The last open world game I played was I think assassin‘s creed three didn’t make it very far kept getting frustrated. That’s when my vision started getting screwy with the cataracts Plus the glaucoma, on top of it
