There was a time where Discord wasn't very accessible to screen readers. But with the advent of the pandemic, it brought more users and so accessibility was improved drastically. With that said, please join the $1, a community for all vision impaired around the world. Sighted people are also welcome!

What makes this different from other servers? It focuses on the vision impaired community, and is moderated ensuring it will stay up for a long time. Go ahead and download Discord for your phone or desktop now and join our server!

I just tried joining said servor, but it asks for people to react to gain access, and I am unable to react. It's not accessible on my computer. I'm mostly blind though.

I will manually give the role to the people who are having problems reacting if I see they have been stuck there for a while, hopefully you are in now.

I'll also try to find an alternative for people using the desktop app.

The iOs app’s accessibility has improved drastically over the last year and a half or so. I’m able to use it just fine, with a few situational minor annoyances.

I had an (sighted) person concerned with accessibility tell me that discord was very inaccessible for blind people and that they were recommending people avoid using it for that reason. Have you not found that to be the case?

I used to, but this past year accessibility has improved a lot, especially on the mobile app side of things

It’s works ok. The navigation is somewhat scattered and some things you have to work really hard to find. Only reason why I know is because I used it when I had sight. I think a lot of feed based sites and apps could learn a lot from the Dystopia app.

It has improved in the last year. It used to allow access by third party software, which was how blind people used it at first. Then they stopped allowing that and blind people couldn't use it since the discord didn't work properly with screen readers.

Last year discord began to formally work on improving the VI experience, such as by automatically asking for feedback from users detected to be running a screen reader.
