Voiceover is unable to handle truth tables in microsoft word. (self.Blind)

Hi. I recently started learning about truth tables in logic. However, VoiceOver is unable to read the cymbals in the word document, no matter what I try. Is there a setting I need to change?

Is there a chance they're images rather than Unicode characters? That would be an issue with the source of the document and not with VoiceOver.
