Discord Accessibility for the Visually Impaired(self.Blind)
submitted by DiazepamBreakfast
Hi, I am assisting with setting up a Discord server which is used in tandem with Zoom for my local college's Model United Nations conference we hold each semester. I was curious how we could make it accessible to blind users or if that's not currently possible? Any information anyone could provide would really help so we can try to open it up to everyone.
Thank you!

It should work fine, the question would be if the blind user should use a mobile or pc for best usage :-)

Mobile is easier

Personally, I would disagree. Apparently Android's Discord is easy to use, but I could never figure it out myself. IOS' Discord client is improving, but by far the most straightforward experience is found on PC.

I need to spend more time with the desktop client then

I think $1 (for now at least) is more accessible on mobile rather than desktop.
Desktop is still accessible, however, navigation is easier with their mobile app.

Discord accessibility isn't that big of a problem anymore.

Problem I have with discord is that it's just a huge pain in the neck. You click on a link to go to it, it asks you for the name you want to be known by, then it tells you to create an account, so you punch in your email and a password and it says there's already an account with those details, which is fine, but there's no option to just use that account. By that point I'm usually giving up.

Instead of punching in your deets, look for a login or so link on that page. I'm pretty sure there should be one, been a while since I did it but I can't remember it ever giving me more then 5 seconds pause so shouldn't be super hard to find :)

Discord has done some pretty good accessibility work recently so you can use the app with a screen reader pretty well. It shouldn't be an issue.
