Question about subtitles on Samsung TV (self.Blind)
submitted by Alexandra4M
Hello. I’m wondering if you can make Voice Guide read subtitles aloud on samsung TV apps like Netflix and YouTube. Thank you.

I have heard once, that voice guide is supposed to be able to read subtitles on Samsung TVs. However, I wasn’t able, to make it work. Neither in Netflix nor in any other app.

Maybe we should write to Samsung and ask.

You can try. I mean, I don’t own a Samsung smart TV. I just tried it once add my parents house. Overall, the experience was OK. But personally, I prefer my shield.

It sounds like what you are looking for is audio description. If you used voice guide it would just read the words that they were reading out loud already which wouldn’t be helpful. If you turn on audio description, the describer would read the subtitles in the language you picked for movies where subtitles are needed for translation purposes. To turn them on, change the language within the app (on Netflix or Hulu) to English Audio Described which can be done with Voice Guide for shows that have description.

I already use audio description and yeah, it really helps. But I was wondering if, for shows which don't have audio description, can Voice Guide read the subtitles out loud, if I want to watch shows in another language. Also, on YouTube it would be useful, because there are no audio descriptions.
