Hey. So I'm an apple user. So I use voiceover. Everyone is talking about discord. I'm not really sure what it is. What do you use it for? Also I'm debating on if I should get it. Is it accessable with Voiceover? Is it easy to navigate? Reddit was such a pain at first. So confusing.

iPhone user here with Discord. I think it’s totally worth getting. The apps accessibility has improved so much over this past year and a half. I’m able to use it just fine with a couple minor annoyances but it’s pretty great and it’s so much better than it was just two years ago from an accessibility standpoint.

I'm glad they finally fixed the leave channel button. I remember once I was in a channel before it was fixed it would be a blank screen in terms of using Voiceover so my boyfriend would have to exit the channel for me in watch stream so that my microphone would disconnect. That's no big deal but it's nice when things can be improved regarding accessibility.

Definitely! Only few problems now that I have are viewing attached files on mobile and leaving servers with a few amount of members. I don’t know why I can leave some servers but not all, maybe it has something to do with some of them being community servers and/or having lots of members in them.

I'm on Android, so can't help you with the accessibility aspect. But Discord is a messaging/voice chat platform. You can message individual people if you know their username, and you can join different servers for specific topics.

As I don't use Voiceover I can not tell you if it is possible.
But discord is worth trying, I am in some great communities there, where people talk about interesting topics and help each other. It really helped me to deal better with my tic disorder and my autism.
It is not that nice visually as I would hope for it to be. (Does not work well with high contrast.) But I recently found a way to at least turn the main Background black and the writing white. That makes it a lot more relaxed for me to read.
Also you can have voice talks there and call people.

Discord is a gaming chat application. It’s very cool. They’ve got a lot of awesome communities and it’s not just gaming. I recommend using the Windows version. The IPhone version is improving though and it definitely works. Discord is fun and it’s free.

I’ve only used it for gaming and I think that was the main purpose when it started. I guess it’s somewhat more private compared to Reddit since you need to get a link to a server. You join one and within it there are channels you can chat in related to that server. There’s a lot more jumping around between those channels versus one subreddit encompassing all related topics. So you can have multiple conversations going even with the same people. At least that’s how I use it for gaming.
As far as VoiceOver, it’s gotten better but like I mentioned you could be jumping around a lot which means more swiping to get to where you want to go. There’s one annoying thing where if you’ve reached the bottom of a chat and then back up to read something again it’ll pit you somewhere in the middle of the page. You’ll do ok if you’re able to use the tap and slide method with your finger to get to where you want on the screen. Personally, I still have some vision so I usually mash the iPad up to my face and use it that way. Give it a shot!

I’ve been using Discord every day since March 16th, 2019, I used an Android up until Nov 28th, 2019. I can’t see anything out of my right eye, and I can only see blurry shapes and colors out of my left. I believe Discord will change your life for the better. I love Discord so much, and they have advanced their accessibility over time. Trust me, you’ll love it! And when you know your way around for the most part, pretty much when you kno ho to send friend requests, you can dm me, and I’d love to help you out more, maybe even help you get into communities you might enjoy, or even helping you create and manage your own community, because I did used to help out some people with creating servers. Servers are the chats on Discord where communities grow. My username is; Seannaes#7727
If you have any problems, feel free to message me here in Reddit. I enjoy helping others, and making possible friends in the process.

I’m not VI but I just have to say the r/Blind subreddit is one of the coolest subreddits on this site.
Our mission is to provide everyone with access to large- scale community websites for the good of humanity. Without ads, without tracking, without greed.
