Alternative Blogging Platforms to Wordpress? (self.Blind)
submitted by RobLBrownBlind
Does anyone know of any good accessible alternatives to Wordpress?

I've been blogging off an on for years, used to love Wordpress, but I just discovered that they're finally working on doing away with the classic editer altogether and forcing everyone to choke on the dumpster fire that is Gutenberg, which is super depressing to say the least.

I honestly don't know if I want to fight and suffer learning to use the travest that is the block system, or look for an alternative platform that's accessible or mostly accessible as Wordpress used to be. Are there any?

That's why I'm asking here to see if anyone has any alternative options.

Also, there are TinyMCE plugins for WP, which is what the classic editor actually is. You could just install one of those.

[[https://www.classicpress.net/]] There's also write.as, which when I used it was accessible.

I'd suggest looking at a Headless CMS solution vs traditional CMS (e.g. WordPress). A headless CMS allows you to use a friendly interface to create and manage content while giving your developers full control of how your blog or pages will appear as they'll be able to configure all the styling and markdown (html, CSS and JavaScript).

Most of us don't use developers for our personal blogs. I learned my way around WP 16 years ago on my own. I just pick themes until I find one I like.

Wordpress is perfectly usable without their editor.
* You can write in markdown
* You can post by email
* you can use the RPC feature and a word processor like MS Word

You could build your own website out of scratch.

Purchase a domain, assign it to a static IP address, deploy a lamp stack with security, profit.

Yep and it's not that difficult. Wordpress seems overly heavy if all you want to do is write text blog entries. One shouldn't need a manual the size of a phone directory to do a blog, is my opinion. A lot of hosting providers offer one click LAMP setups.
