Do any of you use bluetooth earbuds? Any blind friendly ones where if you drop it you can easily find it? (self.Blind)
submitted by Sufficient_Tooth_949
My dad has been using regular wired earbuds when he is out an about by himself but it recently bit the dust and he's considering going wireless

Are there any ones more blind friendly where if it pops out of his ear or drops it when he is by himself it can start beeping?

Or would you recommend sticking with a wired pair that plugs into the phone?

I would suggest the kind that's wired to each other. Hard to get caught up on a cord that only just goes behind your head.

I’m pretty sure you can use the ‘find my...’ feature for the iPhone to make AirPods beep if you lose one.

Yes. If you drop an AirPod you can ask Siri to find it and she will beep it. She will say as long as it isn't in anyone's ears. lol

I am not blind, but I really enjoy using bone induction Bluetooth headphones. I'm not sure what other brands are out there, but Aftershockz has quite a few options to choose from. They rest over the ears and more towards the temple, leaving the ear completely open to hear other sounds as well. This has been incredibly useful for me when I still need to be aware of my surroundings while also listening to music, books, etc. It wraps around the back of the head, so if they need to be removed they can easily rest on the neck with minimal risk of falling off onto the ground.

Not sure if that fits what you're asking for, but hopefully having another option might help!

Yes, I’m blind and use the Air version for work. I get 2 full days out of 1 charge

Yes, the invention of these was a great day for me, you can hear your phone and the world around you without needing to mess about!

On paper I would prefer something that was wired in so you can't drop it, but beyond that it's sort of ideal.

If he uses iPhone, I genuinely love the Airpods. Not generally a complete Apple defender, but the Airpods are genuinely nice.

Bose Soundsport are tactile and report back with details about what they’re connected to and battery levels. They do have noise cancelling versions but if you get him the non noise cancelling type he’ll still be able to hear background noise which is very helpful for vision impaired

The Samsung earbuds can be pinged by the phone to make a noise so you can find them

I use $1. I’m on my second pair. They don‘t pop out and if they do they’ll just dangle in front. Plus the magnet keeps them together around your neck when not in use. Putting them on now to go for a walk.

I’ve got those ! Great value , and I know I would lose Apple ones in about 2 seconds

I have used the sony wi-c400 for almost 2 years the battery life is advertised as 20 hours and i believe it. they are the kind that sit around your neck. the buttons are easy to push when wearing them and have audio prompts for battery life thats some what accurate. The price is pretty reasonable as well.

As a blind cat who rolls through these crowded and fast-paced streets of The Bronx, I can tell you without a doubt that a set of headphones potentially popping out and dropping would be a serious problem. That’s why I rock and would highly recommend a pair of the,

$1

These are lightweight, bluetooth, wireless headphones. I’ve been told they resemble the, “Ray Ban” sunglasses President Byden is known to wear. The feature set on these glasses is straight, no frills. No noise cancelling, no EQ settings, just the basics. These however, are extremely loud, definitely not designed for holding a private conversation, but you can clearly hear a call or info coming from my GPS, Blind Square app which works really well with the open ear format. The battery life is also very good.

I was considering the Bose’s, but didn’t need all that extra. While the Oho’s are good for listening to music and podcasts, that’s not my reason for getting them. Like your Dad, I wanted something I could use in the streets without having to worry about loosing them. ‘Sides, the Bose’s were a bit too high for my price range. The Bose’s and Pods are expensive compared to the Oho’s which first sold for $95, but are now on sale for just $65.

So, there ya go... Oho!
