I have had good success with Gmail and dark mode on my phone with fonts set to largest. Hadn't heard of big email myself.

Which phones do you guys use?
I have an S5 and it doesn't have any core high contrast options (only some of the apps have settings for it) and I need a new phone. I don't normally go for the latest and greatest phone out there, is there any that you've used that you would really recommend? My biggest issue when using a phone is my vision getting washed out when there is a white background.
