I recently purchased the 12.9” iPad Pro and the Magic Keyboard. They’re pricey but I felt like they were good investments for my needs. If you own the Magic Keyboard then I’d like to know your experiences with either VoiceOver or the Zoom feature alone. Do you have any tips or tricks you’ve found that are helpful?
A couple observations:
- When I use the zoom feature, there’s an option to use smart typing. It allows the keyboard to stay the same size while the content is zoomed in. When using the Magic Keyboard, it causes the screen to act jittery at times. Might be because it’s designed for the virtual keyboard.
- When I want to turn on zoom with the 3 finger double tap, I’m unable to do this with the trackpad.
- I’m able to scroll pages with the trackpad while VoiceOver is on. That’s much easier for me than using the 3 finger swipe up or down.
- Using arrow keys to move back and forth between objects seems much more accurate. Same thing with using the up or down arrows to access more actions. It just makes me feel more confident than swiping.
- Similarly, using the trackpad to point at items and having them read back to you seems much more accurate. It’s able to pinpoint objects which might not necessarily be as easy with your finger.
- Of course, a full physical keyboard is great. I’m a pretty fast type so I can get my thoughts down quickly. I had a previous Bluetooth keyboard from Apple but it wasn’t a full sized keyboard and it was prone to errors.
Apple’s VoiceOver between iOS and MacOS are pretty different in my opinion. The former is much more user friendly. So pairing the keyboard experience to iOS really enhances the experience. And the fact that you can snap off the iPad and use it alone is convenient. Hope that all makes sense to you. Please let me know what you think.
