Honestly, get a folding white cane. Because even if you don't need it for navigation, it's the easiest way to let sighted people know you can't see them well.

And, if you get orientation and mobility training, you may find that you do like using it because you can better avoid clipping corners and poles and such.

And when you aren't using the cane, you can fold it and stow it away.
