YAG laser capsulectomy (self.Blind)
submitted by LinuxPhred
I was legally blind when I had cataract surgery back in 2016. I was living in Singapore, and did not own a motor vehicle so I was able to live in denial that I was going blind. I got a clue when I walked into a glass door, and suffered a concussion.

Last year I just passed my driver's license eye test by a razor thin margin. I was blind in my left eye, and my right eye was struggling. "Secondary Cataracts" was to blame. I had the surgery last week. I was so dizzy, that I stayed in bed for almost two days.

I will be getting another eye test this afternoon. If the doctor OK's me, I can ride my new motorcycle that will be delivered tomorrow.

They will perform surgery on my right eye in six weeks.

Will the "floaties" go away?

Will I need to get this done again in five years.

Some good news; I have high blood pressure and I am pre-diabetic. The doctor said that I have no visible damage to my retinas.

I had cataract surgery in January of 2013. I had an anterior capsulotomy in August of that year - part of the capsular bag that had been removed to place the lens started to re-grow and was pulling the lens out of alignment, which my doc said can happen in younger cataract patients. Then I had a posterior capsulotomy for PCO in the spring of 2015. I haven't had to have any since then.

The floaters will settle down over time.

I’ve had capsulectomies twice in 10 years. Probably due for one again soon.

Thank you for letting me know. I was really hoping this would be a "one-off".

My wife and I had purchased a condo in Yangon. The civil war there is going to affect our plans to retire there in 7 years. I am also concerned that I will not be able to get the treatments there, and may have to travel to Bangkok or Singapore to get them.
