Uber Ordered To Pay $1.1 Million After Blind Woman Says She Was Refused Service (forbes.com)

I have filed complaints against taxi companies more times than I care to think of for refusing me service (traveling with guide dog).

Do you tell them up front you have a dog, or not? Legally you don’t have to.
AchooCashew 5 points 2y ago
Nope. I get in as fast as possible before they can drive away ... ha..ha? 😰

It's not even just the dog thing. I've had black cab drivers in London say things like "oh I'm not really set up for this, sorry love," and drive off.

To be fair that is amazingly rare, though. Like half a dozen times ever, and I use ubers and stuff all the time when there is no virus.

I find London cabbies are a lot more helpful than Uber drivers when it comes to pointing you toward the front door of wherever you're headed, though.

All this stuff is always much worse in the USA than the UK.

Good! Ive heard about Uber drivers refusing blind people with guide dogs service. Its not Ubers fault necessarily as a company but they need to let their drivers know they HAVE to accept people with service animals. Molly Burke made a video about the discrimination she faces from Uber last year I think.

It's very much Uber's fault. They have a policy, drivers must agree to that policy. It is Uber that refuses to enforce it, and actually terminate drivers.

I always feel a little bad because I think even well groomed dogs leave hair, even if its only on the rug. I mean I don't feel bad enough not to use Uber, its just a thing I think about.

The same sort of thing happened to me with my guide dog. I wish I got a pile of cash for having to deal with that!

I was about to say even though I am just legally blind, maybe I could have gotten a lot of money over the years for various things. lol. And when I was in school "resource teachers" who were supposed to help me were always acting like teachers were doing me such a huge favor and I should pretty much bow down to them if they do anything at all to help me know what was on the board or overhead. lol.

I’m 20/200 corrected and had a teacher who refused to let me sit in the front row for no justifiable reason, even though I told him I couldn’t see unless I was there. He knew I was VI and everything. My parents flipped shit at my counselor and made him move me to a different class hut I wish they would’ve sued or threatened to or something. Tempted to dig up that teachers email address just to email him and say that I still remember lol.

I’m 20/200 left eye and 20/400 right eye. I take photos of the presentation with my iPad so I can zoom in and actually read, but I still need to sit in the front. People always give me shit for taking the instructor’s photo “without permission” even though I have his permission, but do not legally require it in my area. Just sharing my rant. Have a great day friend :)

It's pathetic that any teachers would act that way. I had some practically as bad, but probably not quite as bad. Also in one class a girl took notes for me and then after weeks or months of it she suddenly out of nowhere yelled at me and said I never thank her (because I would just take them when she handed them to me and was too shy to say anything), so after that I kept thanking her and she clearly still hated me and then out of nowhere she was not sitting next to me anymore or taking notes. lol.

Damn, I wish they'd refuse me service too.
