Jobs are eo hard to get with a visual impairment. And I can make good money
Only1lunatica 3 points 2y ago
I'm going to be honest here, brutally honest, using my disability to get pity money would be deplorable to me
Only1lunatica 1 points 2y ago
And the other of two questions?
doccaballero 2 points 2y ago
You’re not a good person.
winchester6800 1 points 2y ago
How so ?
doccaballero 2 points 2y ago
Don’t beg it makes it hard for everyone who is struggling
winchester6800 2 points 2y ago
Um not to sound weird but are you trying to do a survey or is it something else
[deleted] [OP] -1 points 2y ago
I'm asking for myself
Xena66 1 points 2y ago
Reddit is super classist ignore the negative comments. As for getting more money it’s really gonna depend on where you are
codeplaysleep 1 points 2y ago
I got my first job in the fall of '96, three months after I turned 18 and have worked ever since (aside from some time I intentionally took off after having a kid).

I don't think there's anything that could make me beg on the street for money.

Sounds like you didn’t all of a sudden lose your vision as an adult and end up homeless while trying to adjust
codeplaysleep 1 points 2y ago
Neither did OP, judging by their post history.
Xena66 1 points 2y ago
Cool well lots of people do and it’s not your place to judge
codeplaysleep 1 points 2y ago
Show me were I judged anyone. Oh, wait, I didn't.

I know of one person with vision loss who has panhandled for money before. According to them, they made about $2 an hour. That was also in a fairly busy subway station. I do believe he was drawing from welfare as well, although I don't know the specific details.

Does OP mean panhandling/Street begging or begging for favours from those in their lives because of circumstance

Street begging

I don’t ask for things often because I don’t want people to feel pressured. And I never ask for money from others unless it’s my parents since I’m still only 16. But my family have no problem saying no to me. I do pull the blind card sometimes though to get out of doing things. Anyway why are you asking?
Xena66 2 points 2y ago
Because not everyone a blind child with parents to take care of them. Some people don’t have relationships with their parents due to abuse, parents dying young, etc. If you all of a sudden lose your eye sight as an adult and don’t have parents to go home to you’re kind of fucked
casserole_cat 2 points 2y ago
Hey I’m sorry it seems like you are really struggling but I was just answering you question which is if I ever beg. And I was saying that I don’t and why I don’t. Yes I realize how privileged I am and I’m grateful. When I commented early on you hadn’t said that you yourself were visually impaired so I just thought you were sighted asking a odd question.
Xena66 1 points 2y ago
I’m not the one that asked the question, but I am struggling so I can emphasize with someone else who is.
casserole_cat 1 points 2y ago
Oh sorry I didn’t realize that you weren’t OP Im usually good about that. I’m sorry you are going through a rough time though.
