Audio description help (self.Blind)
submitted by frezkey
Is there an app that allows for audio-description just so only I can hear it; for example if I am watching with the family and they don't want to hear it but I need it so I can just listen via earphones?
I suppose the issue is that it needs to be cross platform netflix, amazon and so on)

If you're in the US, try Spectrum Access (remember to download the correct app because there are several with similar names).

Not very helpful but I’m UK based and my family are now so used to audio descriptions that they don’t notice anymore.
It might be worth seeing if they will give it a go

I second spectrum access, although it may not have everything you want. The other thing I’ve done is played the movie on Netflix or Amazon while they were watching it on TV. Unfortunately, you can never get the tracks quite synced right so there’s always a strange echo.

I have an mp3 player with earphones which has timestretching at tenth of a second increments, so by a few minutes in, I've usually synced up just fine with an mp3 copy of the AD track.
