After having cooped up at home for over year, we (blind couple) are fully vaccinated and totally ready to hit the road. For simple logistical reasons, I am looking for suggestions on vacation spots in the US.

I like to be able to go for long walks independently. We went to Mexico but we were mostly confined to the resort and that gets boring pretty quickly. I like San Diego because of the boardwalks and the peers they have over there but I have been there a lot.

So are there any specific places that you recommend which are great for walking around safely in California or west coast or other parts of the country?

Thanks for any input.

I always love national parks. CA has so many! What was the redwood forest or Yosemite valley?

Las Vegas is a good idea. It's pretty walking friendly on the boardwalk area. And there's a lot to do with out gambling. There's an Avengers exhibit (there was when I went) that was awesome. The buffets are pretty good too. There should also be some other exhibits too. There's an aquarium and if you can go on a quieter day than I went, you can hear them talking about the animals.
Dallas isn't bad either. I live here and we do have a pretty good transit system and Google maps is connected to it. You can also jump on the TRE to get to the ft worth Zoo, better than Dallas.
Hope these were a little helpful for a couple ideas.
Edit: there is apparently a buffet ticket you can get for the three big resorts and they have some great food. Lol

Vegas is nice, but it might be a bit overwhelming due to the abundance of sound and people, just something to keep in mind.

I know when we went, the weekend after valentine's day in 2019 is was not really busy at all. We were surprised. So it wasn't too loud that it overpowered anything else. The aquarium was different because all the kids, so that would probably be better to do during the week. So time of year is good to keep in mind.

I grew up just outside of Dallas and now live about an hour southwest of the metroplex. I would probably recommend San Antonio or Galveston over Dallas for a tourist.

I hope you did then! I know Dallas, but I don't know much about walkability of San Antonio or Galveston, been to each place once but it was before my vision loss.

I really liked Monterey, CA and the northernmost part of San Francisco where the promenade is. Guide Dogs for the Blind is a little north of that and that whole town is super easy to get around in, but the food isn't as interesting (I forget the name of the town.)
I visited Santa Rosa maybe five years ago and it was a little confusing in some places, but you can walk or take the bus anywhere and they had the best food options. Four to five star restaurants on every corner, no joke. But I don't know how the fires have affected the downtown area since then.

I forgot to add that San Francisco has a lot of really nice trails in the park areas.

Are you more a country person or a city person? (I'm sighted but have a couple of blind friends that I help out with various stuff). I love to travel and adventure, but I stick to less touristic spots. Montreal would be a good bet for you. The public transportation is great there and there is fantastic food and lots of stuff to do. I want to take one of my blind friends on a road trip there at some point. Seattle is also nice as well as Vancouver, but I don't know those areas well enough to recommend things to do.

Denver is very walkable with a light rail system as well. Lots of parks - Confluence and Washington Park in particular are my favorites, but there are more.

Thank you all for the suggestions. No Vegas. Been there done that. I am more looking for outdoorish. Montreal is amazing and we have a friend there as well. I think the border is closed now though. I have been to Seattle and I really like it.
