Job Opportunities (self.Blind)
submitted by dmzww
For some of the low vision peeps, has anyone tried getting a job as a transcriber or virtual assistant? If so, how was it? Iis it doable? I’m looking into it and was wondering if anyone has successfully sustained one. Also, amazon va to be exact. From the PH here and PWD rehabilitation is almost unheard of here

I started transcription work this year through Transcribe.me. It hasn't felt any more or less difficult than when I did transcription work when sighted. If anything, I would say it is only slightly harder due to waiting on the screen reader to repeat everything and recheck against the transcriptions guide.

My tech advisor pointed me to Career Connect for job opportunities that may be more blind friendly. It's an app/website for blind workers. I have it savedd in my bookmarks but haven't really looked through it yet.

May I know the app or website? Also, do you use a foot pedal?

Transcribe.me is the website.

I tried a foot pedal when I first did transcriptions in 2005 (and had my sight), but couldn't get used to it. I'm not invested enough in transcriptions to buy a new one since I'm still fumbling around with work opportunities and SSDI income limits.
