Where my Blind Stoners at? (self.Blind)
submitted by Background_Mine_3439
Hello! Let me start this by saying I myself am not blind. I am a stoner. It recently came to my attention how the whole cannabis industry, recreational and medical, is NOT accessible. I’m looking to hear from the blind stoner community! I’m also looking to make more stoner friends in general! Being a cannabis enthusiast and activist, I believe that everyone who is 21+ and wants to use cannabis for whatever reason, should be able to with ease! Unfortunately I feel like most cannabis products were created for only one kind of user. So, I’d like to hear from you and what your experience has been with cannabis use!

A little about me, I am a 25 year old female from NYC, I go by Vida Sativa, I am biracial, I love creating and listening to music, I also enjoy writing for my blog. Oh and I smoke weed daily LOL

Thanks for checking out this post I hope to hear from you!

Edit to title: Where my blind or visually impaired stoners at! Of course I know there's a spectrum and I didn't mean to just say blind, sorry! Face palm moment.

29 M UK. You'd be surprised how many blind people smoke and take other consumables. We're certainly not in the majority, but it's quite easy to lose count of us. While many aspects of partaking aren't always super intuitive, everything is achievable with dedication and a few workarounds every so often, depending on preference.

You sound like an awesome human. May I DM you? I'd love to talk shop with you about Cannabis advocacy in America, intersectionality during a cultural reckoning, and music creation/consumption. Will definitely check your blog.

Heyo. I partake as well. I started vaping, but I've moved to edibles and tinctures because my throat was unhappy. I take it mainly to help with gender dysphoria and for fun. Usually I'll go for a few weeks and then take a break for a month or two. Vaping's nice, but there aren't very many accessible batteries available. Squinting really hard at tiny LEDs isn't much fun. I've heard some people here enjoy using the Crafty which has haptic feedback and a mostly accessible companion app, but I've never tried dry herb stuff. Also as good as my Vessel is, it never hit as hard as the little gummies in my nightstand. I don't mess with combustion because smoke is bad no matter what, and fire is generally best left to those with functioning eyes. That said, I do enjoy occasional puffs on a joint or fat rips from a bong when friends come over to assist with such things. When it comes to inhaling though, 510-cartridge distillate vapes are by far the easiest and safest option (provided you purchase from a licensed dispensary).

As far as accessibility, products and boxes aren't any more or less accessible than anything else you might buy on a daily basis, though I've noticed dispensary websites are particularly awful. Not sure if it's everywhere, but my dispo has a lot of very helpful staff that help me order in person or over the phone. It's typically a quirky crowd too which suits me just fine.

Why do vapes always end up hurting? I got a cough from hitting a dab pen too much, maybe its just too harsh?
Laser_Lens_4 1 points 2y ago
Probably. Lowering the temperature helps, but that discomfort is one of the big reasons I stopped. I’d love to talk btw. Can I send you a PM?
Background_Mine_3439 [OP] 2 points 2y ago
Of course you may! I probably should lower the temperature but I never do lol !

I strongly recommend getting a good dry herb vape and vaping through water! As a medicinal user its a lifesaver

I’m not completely blind (still have the edges of my peripheral vision), but I have Stargardt’s Disease and am a pretty heavy user. My Migraines from it qualify me for a Med Card in my state (Colorado), and having access to it has been a life saver.

For me, I’ve never had a ton of accessibility issues, though a portion of that is probably cause I’ve only gone through Medical Dispensaries.
Background_Mine_3439 [OP] 2 points 2y ago
Interesting, I guess Medical Dispensaries are more put together! Love Colorado btw, Thanks for your answer!

I did message you yesterday I was fairly new to this app but I am a legally blind cannabis enthusiast
Big bong smoker and dabber
I find bongs and bowls the most accessible for blind beginners as it can all be done by touch
I am capable of rolling blunts took me awhile to learn myself but I got it (not for everyone)
Dabbing isn’t really that easy at all unless using an Erig with haptic feedback and tactile controls like the g pen roam
I do still have some sight and use a standard glass Dab rig with a e nail however I often struggle with it especially when it’s a concentrate that is more loose and not as sticky material
Looking into getting the g pen connect to see if it helps with the old school dab method

My little brother is blind and he turns 21 soon. Also, a bill just passed in my state that allows medical patients to buy cannabis flower and vapes!

perfect timing thank goodness! That's going to be a fun 21st birthday, tons of goodies and munchies for sure.

I used to consume alot of high thc strains especially before I got my eyes removed because of glaucoma pain. Now adays I prefer hemp flower, after sticking to hemp for a year or so all the high thc strains almost feel to strong for me now. I would love to work in a dispensary educating people about cannabis, but I am really not sure about the accessibility aspect and all that since alot of them now use tablets for the ordering and selection process. Oh btw I use an arizer air1 for dry flower vaping for a portable,.
If you want something accessible for desktop paping look in to the herbalaire nondigital model it has an analog knob with a knotch that you point using the clock method for your desired temp.

ooooh I feel like a good list of products in emerging from this thread! I feel like you should be able to work in a dispensary! or perhaps do cannabis coaching and that way you can help people without being in a store setting.

Western Canada checking in. Started vaping flower in 2015. I was born with retinal damage and no vision save light perception thanks to a genetic condition called LCA. There are quite a few usable vapes. My favourite is the Fury Edge, which I use pretty much all day most days. I went through two Crafty units, have also tried the Pax 3, Firewood 4, OG Dynavap and a few more. The real issue I'd say is concentrates. Those are the most difficult to place correctly in chamber-based devices. When using carts it's very difficult to know if there are bubbles, if the absorption is blocked or if the cart needs to be heated externally to get half the contents to drip down. I don't hang out anywhere though. Just get high, read sci fi, watch the NASA channel on YouTube or just appreciate how much more awesome my music sounds.

High five, lol, on getting high and watching youtube and of course all the updates on perseverance! Will definitely have to add these vapes to the list of recommended products!

I don’t know what it’s like in the US but in the UK there is definitely a gap in the market for luxury edibles the kind of thing I’m talking about is like delicious chocolate brownies with flavouring and rainbow Smartie cookies that also contain cannabis I make music also please may I Diem you?
Background_Mine_3439 [OP] 1 points 2y ago
Of course you may message me! I totally agree, I feel like it is much more cost effective to make the edibles at home. I like decarboxylating the cannabis and then drizzling it on top of a nutella cookie sandwich.

Hello! I'm legally blind and autistic. My state allows recreational use so I didn't bother with a medical card for reasons. I think my biggest issues have been:
1. Ordering online is ok but the wait and flow of customers at the dispensary for pick up is both a sensory nightmare and a pain in the ass for blind folks. I always make them read the order number to me on the receipt and then I have to somehow ignore all the other numbers being shouted out and only listen for my own in a crowded setting. I certainly would prefer delivery, I have to take a bus there and back, but I realize that is dependent on state law.
2. The selection is geared toward those who want to get high as fuck. Now, I certainly was that person a couple of decades ago but I'm in my 40s now and I just want to relax while making dinner, let go of some workday stress, and sleep a solid 6 hours. Weed can help with that, but not with high THC strains. Finding low dose flower or 2:1 products is possible, but not guaranteed.

LOL that's so true. Yes, also love relaxing making food while stoned. I've also found that the 1:1 ratio is super relaxing. But I only tried that from an Oregon dispensary.

I hate reviving old threads, really do. This was the most recent on the topic and I didn't want to create a new one, and as it's not a topic many would write on it was easier to bring it back. I'm sorry y'all.I'm fully blind since birth (you can read my other threads on this profile, most of which tend to be drug related.) Love cannabis, 10 years now. I use it because my left eye is dead and calcium builds up on it. Makes it feel like sand is stuck in my eye gradually more and more so by the end of the day I need to hold a pillow against it. Unless I use cannabis. The specific thing is known as Band Keratopathy and they don't know what makes it on a diseased eyes to happen.

I agree with posters about dabs. I recently got the Puffco Peak which is an amazing accessible dab rig. No torch, uses a standard coil like your regular pen dabs do but it's traditional water-based. I struggle with sticky wax, such as rozin or any kind of live resin. Yes there are dab tools you can pick them up with but most often it will get stuck on the end of the tool, or you need to touch to know that it's guided into the right part of the chamber. With smaller ceramic bowls like used by the Puffco this gets infinitely harder. Any surface contact will transfer material to your finger and you waste it. I try to go for Crumbles, Wax, shatter if it's glassy and breakable.

I have a Pax 3. I also use a log vape called the E-nano, which does get crazy good as it's convection-based. But you hold the end of the pipe over your heater rod, so E-nano can be more unsafe if you don't line up the end of the glass pipe with the heating element. Easy enough to do if you hold the whip in your mouth and direct the heater on the other end with a hand, fitting it over the pipe's end. I do use an electric lighter, known as an "arc lighter" - these have four prongs that circulate a plasma arc across them. Also known as plasma lighters. The flame on these does not travel upward. I've also heard of other blind stoners using the adjustable Zippo ones. I have a silicone elefant-shaped bubbler for example that I ue this way.

I also have the Firefly vape for flower. Quite nice but tricky since you need to rotate your herb and can't tell which spots are more brown. Probably least favorite in that way.

Would love to find more dab tips though. That's killing me (more like my wallet since I keep wasting it.) I just got some rozin sticky stuff (we have recreational here now) and I made the novice mistake of mixing it with a pressed kief ball I got, thinking it would dilute the stickyness. Now I can't use that dab in my Puffco, I screwed over the temps. And wasted close to 60 bucks in the process. I can use it in my Pax thankfully so it's not entirely useless but so irritating that a disability can make me feel that marginalized just by stupid things like that. If only I could pick up the Rozin on a dab tool and use vision to direct it, not my finger, I would not have wanted to combine the kief with my rozin. What a dumb ass I am.
