Bored (self.Blind)
submitted by dunktheball
I'm bored. Since I don't drive, due to low vision, I feel stuck and have gotten to a point of just the same boring routine at home all the time, not meeting people, etc.. I also don't like change, so I am doubly held back.

Yeah.... me too. Sometimes I just want to go out and go literally anywhere or maybe just drive. But my parents don’t leave the house after 4 so I can’t even ask them to take me somewhere. It sucks

That is another thing, when I do go somewhere it would be nice to not have to depend on family to take me, but not much way around it unless I want to spend a lot of money on uber or something. lol. I do live somewhere where I can walk to ton of stores, BUT there is nothing for fun, like a movie theater or bowling alley, etc.... that is close enough to easily walk to. I'm going to go crazy if I don't figure out new things to do away from home that i want to actually leave the home to go do (and cna get to). Plus annoying never meeting people. I am just in an extra bad mood today. lol.

I think this year has everyone super bored and fed up. Where i am there is pretty much a 5km limit with covid of where you can travel so even with being able to drive etc there is no where new to go even when they have temporarily lifted the distance restriction every thing fun is still closed. Maybe mid June outdoor dining, amusement parks, outdoor attractions will be open

Yeah... I feel ya. Talking to people online only gets you so much enjoy, ent. It’s hard to feel alive when you simply can’t get to places that make you feel like you exist

Very relateable. Though many other factors were at play, all of the last 7 years of my life I spent at home. I stopped going to school, i dont work, I feared leaving the house because I noticed my vision was getting worse. But ive been getting O&M training and hopefully I will get job training soon as well. I am legally blind but can sitll use a computer so its not like Ive been totally bored. And tv can entertain me for a while too. But it sucks to feel trapped in your house and live purposelessly.

I socialize online and that satisfied me for a whle, but sometimes you just wanna go out with people, eat at a restaurant, have drinks. Only local frieends I have are honestly my sisters. My boyfriend doesnt even live in my country. Its easy to feel isolated, lonely and yes very bored.

That sounds very similar to how I was tears back. But now in some ways I am better and in some ways worse. I do get out more, just to walk places, but I actually socialize online less.... other than posting on forums/message boards.... but not a lot of one on one talking to people.

Also, I was going to say my vision isn't getting worse, but actually I have a cataract, so one eye is getting worse because I keep putting off that surgery.... But anyway I was born legally blind so it was from the start, but it's still frustrating after all of these years. Part comes down to personality. I am not outgoing unless I know someone. So I ahve both that and the vision problem making things tough. I don't even know WHERE to meet people and of course the virus now makes that even extra bad. lol.

Why do you keep putting off the surgery? Are you scared?
dunktheball [OP] 1 points 2y ago
I am kind of worried becasue I am so sued to being really nearsighted in both eyes and having to get right up at screens and the cataract is only bad enough to come out in 1 eye, so i'd be left with 1 really nearsighted eye and 1 farsighted one due to them putting a prescription in the eye. I am worried I will be caught in between where I can't read a monitor from close OR far.

But it's so bad now that if I close my eye without the bad cataract I can't even see objects in front of me that I'd normally have seen. I've eben legally blind in both eyes to start with even before the cataract.

That sounds really complicated but is that what a doctor said would happen?

Keep in mind that this is Corona virus times and that very few people are going out socially.

I play games for the blind, I read a lot, I listen to podcasts and watch Netflix or Disney Plus, and I go for walks in my neighbourhood.

yeah I know the virus has just made everything even that much worse. but even before it I never could think of where to go to meet people. A lot of people with low or no vision end up married and I can't even meet anyone to start with. A combination of my vision and my somewhat shyness. I think it would be easier if I were female, although even then women have to go somewhere, can't just sit at home and someone show up asking them out or wanting to be friends etc... lol.
oncenightvaler 1 points 2y ago
I am male as well, but if you ever wanted a pal to chat with or to call you can hit me up, we could even share a book or share watching a show on streaming service. think bout it. I know its not the same as going out but its something to do.

Would be cool to drive for my own purposes for sure. Speeding around corners, speed on the highway etc.... haha! I get the sense I’d be a bit wreckless with a car haha!

But have you tried public transit they get you pretty decent places!!!!!

Also have you thought about reading books and studying things I took a semester off school and have been doing a ton of self development work. Reading books and such studying with communities online.

Same my “outing” is just me walking my dog like 4 times a day to convince myself that I’m being productive. And I bake stuff. But I just want to go somewhere! I get so excited on the weekends when I get to go to Costco or another grocery store with my dad. Last weekend we went to Target!!!

See what I mean? The freaking grocery store gets me excited. I’m so bored that I’m going to the movies with a friend...... it’s a anime that’s not in English and has captions to understand only. Hope we get good seats to see the captions doubt I will be able to keep up even if I can though. I haven’t gone anywhere in a while and so I’m super excited. I plan on just sitting there eating snacks and enjoying a new environment. This is just like when I went to a silent film with a friend because I was THAT bored and was invited.
dunktheball [OP] 2 points 2y ago
yeah grocery stores are practically all I go to. lol.

Well, at least going to a movie is something to do and can be fun. I bet I wouldn't be able to read the subtitles, though. Even on a tv I have to sometimes pause or go back because I don't finish reading before the next screen. But for a movie without needing subtitles, I'd love to go to one.

I really need to make some friends because that is a lot of my problem is I am isolated too often. i talk to family and that's about it... Also, even at homer I need to think of more to do. I sue the computer and I watch tv and that's about it. It's boring after decades of it. lol.
