I have dubbed my cane the staff of Sight

Lately I call it my “social-distancing stick”.

I read a blog some time ago, possibly more than 10 years ago, by a blind Canadian women who called her cane "Thwack" as she would talk about its potential to discipline anyone who fell below her standards such as bus drivers who forget to call out her stop.

The blog was very entertaining but unfortunately I didn't bookmark the blog and have not been able to find it again since.

People actually name their canes? In all the years I have used a cane, I have never named mine or come across anyone who has. I must be living under a rock or something.

My friend calls her Michael

We just call it the blind stick.

Although "The Sight Staff" comes into play sometimes

Mine is called Geiger because it sounds like one on our pavements

Electronic Supersonic hyper ultra thing :P nah ...cane doesn't respond when I call it, so I never bothered to name it :)

I don't. For me, it's a device that's an adaptive extension of myself. They get replaced often enough to not get emotionally attached. If you find one that works well enough for you and lasts long enough to feel invested in it, then sure.

My first O&M instructor made us name our canes. “Like knights name their swords,” he’d say.
My first cane was thusly named Jawbreaker. After came Widowmaker. Current cane is Perturbator.
It’s silly but it’s kinda funny and I see it as a way to honor my instructor. He whom taught me to traverse treacherous lands with the confidence of a whale in ocean waters.

I'm a weirdo who names everything. My main cane is Richard and my straight cane was named John McCane by the person who gave it to me. 🙃

It's my car. It goes places with me and then takes me back home. summer is coming so I'll probably have to crochet something to keep the handle from getting too damn hot.

I called mine Moses staff because of parts the sea of pople like the red sea I have a little vision still and it’s funny to see people freeze then scramble to get out of the way, parents dragging their kids etc.

ok so funny story when I was first learning to use a cane my Orientation instructor said I should name it, so the first name that came to mind was "askacaska" because I was always asking directions with it I guess. I probably only had that name for a month.

I’ve joked that it’s a long rod, or a sword, someone call it my poll so now it’s a poll, what about a poll stick or do they call the things clubs hahaha! too. Hahaha! Yeah, I don’t really name it.
