How do screen readers identify verified accounts vs unverified accounts on social media?(self.Blind)
submitted by BanalPlay
Hi everybody. I am front end developer and I like to make images that have important context to the message descriptive but I am having trouble.
In this case, I need to explain what a verified social media account looks like. For example if I was looking at an official account on instagram or twitter I would say they have a "verification badge" (the blue circle with a check mark), but I don't know if that is enough context, the right phrasing, or if there is a better way to say it.
Thank you!

how about just "verified" or " Verified Badge"? In this case, form over function is key, I would say, particularly because it sounds like that same icon might come up quite a few times?

It only comes up once. It is a written piece about protecting yourself from scams. So there is one example of checking that it is the actual business by looking for the the blue badge.
As I was adding the alt tag to the image, I realised that it might not make sense as a screen reader might verbalise a verified users differently.
Thank you for the insight.

I’ve see. Verified Account, Verified User, and Verified Person used on different sites. The whole point is to say this person has X number of followers and turned in a copy of an ID stating they are who they say they are.

OK thank you! So the key is to use the word "verified". Thank you for your help.

They are pretty easy to identify most will say verified if they are and say nothing if they aren’t.
