Have you ever lived in a major city? I see tons of cane users around Boston and the burbs though Perkins is also nearby so I wonder if that has a lot to do with it. (Not blind, just do accessibility work so tend to notice it more)

it‘s because you can’t see. . . (sorry I use humor as a defense mechanis)
Truth, I come across many when Im on campus, but it’s also a campus with a vital Blind Low Vision Studies department and near a state rehabilitation center. Outside of the specific area I run into 2-3 other individual, but it’s the same folks all the time.

When I had more vision, it was how me and another girl became friends LOL. Other than that, I haven’t really noticed. I have had an O&M instructor throw out a dueling cane comment and I got into a conversation with a nice older lady.

The only way I have ever known is if I hear the rattling sound of someone unfolding a cane, or someone tapping along. That does happen every so often, I have no idea if it's the same person every time. The other way is if I physically tangled canes with someone else which has happened exactly once in twenty years of using a cane.
I asked my other half and he reckons there's three or four other people he regularly sees out and about in our town of about a hundred and seventy thousand.

Same - I don't see well enough to tell 😂

I’ve only seen two others and that was when I was in WI! Major city too. Haven’t seen any where i live now nor when I lived in WA or TX or AL

I've seen a handful of people using white canes - maybe half a dozen, and one person who had a guide dog.
Most of those were spotted while traveling to/living in larger cities (Boston, Indianapolis, and Calgary, AB). I live in a small town of around 13k people and I've not seen anyone else here who uses a cane since I graduated high school (there were two students I went to school with who used one, but they both moved away). There may well be others, but our paths have never crossed.

Here and there yes. But I also have been very weary of the blind groupy stuff as I don’t get along with blind people all that much. So yeah.....
