Take cues from the person who’s calling you. Sometimes we really, really need something fast and aren’t able to socialize, but sometimes it’s nice to have someone who views disabilities positively.
Please be conscious of the situation, what is asked, and how it is asked. If someone sounds tense, terse, or otherwise in a hurry, it in no way reflects on you or means that we are angry or being difficult. It is usually situational stress where we are being asked to do better to accommodate others.
Maybe I’m stressed about the frustrated people standing behind me in line behind me inconvenienced by my very existence as I try to make sure I’m giving the right amount of money and not being taken advantage of.
Those people who can take those cues and adapt on the fly are the ones I remember and the ones I am most happy with.
