Anyone know of any budget braille displays? (self.Blind)
submitted by Criptedinyourcloset
Hey hey hey. This post is kind of a joke and kind of not a joke. I love braille displays, absolutely love them. They are the most convenient things on earth and I will forever think the person who thought of this incredible idea. The only problem? Most of them cost thousands of dollars. Or at least over $1000, the cheapest one I found is the orbit reader which is around 500, but I haven’t been able to find anything else that’s under $1000. Anyone know of any good budget braille displays?

You might try setting up an ebay alert to let you know when used equipment you are interested in is listed.

I discourage people on a budget from doing this because braille displays cost a lot to repair as they age. It's a better use of money to save to buy a new one.

Have you contacted any charities for the blind, ask them what they do with theirs when they get new models etc. I know our visiting teacher for the blind has over the years given us equipment (visualisers, liberty scholars, laptops etc when a student on their books have aged out of the service.
