anyone know of an Open Source alternative to ZoomText?(self.Blind)
submitted by a11y-fun
I was just looking at all the features ZoomText has and it looks really good but then I saw the pricetag. Are there any alternatives for people with low vision that don't want to use a screen reader?

Have you checked out the new annual license? There’s always windows magnifier but is definitely going to lack features compared to zoom text.

Windows has a built in magnifier tool that’s worth checking out.

No problem. For Mac users, Apple also has built in “zoom” accessibility tools on all their devices, but I figured we were talking Windows here because of the ZoomText reference.

If you end up using the windows magnifier, let me know and I'll hook you up with an auto hotkey script for on the fly carrot following switching.
The windows magnifier isn't actually that bad. Chances are, if you use the magnifier and not just a screen reader, you'll actually be just fine.

There is Virtual Magnifying Glass, but that is pretty old. There is also Magnifier by Blacksun Software, which seems to get updates regularly (version 10.0 came out Jan 2020, and an updated happened in April 2021).
