Favorite PC games for low vision? (self.Blind)
submitted by notoriousbsr
My wife has Stargardts disease, less than 20/800 vision but she loves PC games.
Any recommended that don't have micro displays or confusing interfaces but still fun?

Oddly, one of my favorites is Fallout 4. The VATS system is good for low vision since it's basically an auto-aim feature, and you can build your character around it to make it even more effective. I use a mod called West-Tek Tactical Goggles that allows me to cycle through night vision, infrared, and targeting vision modes I will cycle through them when I am having issues seeing until I find the right one for the area. In addition, another mod I use allows you to bring your dog with you even when you have another companion. The dog will bark and lead you to containers it finds with useful items so I am less likely to miss something. Lastly, the game has a built-in console command menu if you need/want to use it for things like god mode, debugging, or item creation, so you can use those while getting used to the game.

Funny enough I download Fallout Vault from Steam. I'll find 4 for her

My wife has Stargardts too! She doesn't do a lot of gaming but she really likes party style games, or ones where I can talk her through what she's doing. There was an online version of Cards Against Humanity that she really enjoyed when we played with some friends.

I’m a legally blind teen and I don’t really play many big games on my laptop. But games I do play are Minecraft, animal crossing, and food making games. Also I love driving games even though I’m terrible at them games like asphalt 9 and gta 5. I love them because I can drive and that’s all I do I imagine myself driving irl because I’m low key depressed that all my friends are getting their licenses right now. Mario is really good also. I have no clue if these are on PC since I play a little on my surface pro but mostly on my switch.

But yea Minecraft I love because you can adjust the text size and color of the chat box and also have a speak out loud to you what others type. And well it’s Minecraft so it’s simple graphics. And you can play it on so many things.

I second the fallout recommendation. I myself also like new vegas and 3, they have VATS too, but a lil less doggo support. I like just wandering around and encountering all the random world and things about. I die a lot, but I do that in most games lol. Another I've found fun is dont starve together, the ui can be made bigger and most things can be done by keyboard! Just slap space bar to pick up things or do simple actions. I usually just stay around camp though, but I have fun tending to it. I mostly play as Wendy, she has a very helpful ghost sister that can fight things for you and makes farming certain resources very easy. The game also has mod support and some good UI mods I've found helpful to my own vision issues. Dont starve together is a co-op game though, but there's also dont starve, but I've not played it so idk if its solo playable for vision impaird peeps.

Holds up Minecraft!! There is lots of easy to install blind mods so she can use it. And they have their own accessibility built in as well.

I download an emulator for old nitindo and 64 games. The old school games like mario, zelda, and donky kong. They are fun to play and not a lot of reading or messing with inventory. My husband and I have started playing Stardew Valley wich allows you to zoom your character in. He still has to read me the text but we can play together. Alexa also has non visual game such as Star Finder and The abyss. More like playing DND on the phone. Alexa has tons of others as well. Also check out fully voiced story based games.

Hello! I unfortunately can't recommend any games but I can recommend this website that sorts games based on various accessibility features:
$1

Also, I am currently working with a group of other students trying to implement high-contrast in games, if your wife would like to test for us we would greatly appreciate it you can write to me on reddit or our group email $1 . Testing will be done during this and next week and we would love a 15-20 minute audio interview afterwards to ask questions about the experience. Thank you.
