submitted by nullatonce
P.S. I opened an issue on one of the app ($1

If you have an account please add an reaction, more attention = higher chance to get fixes).

It's seems to be quite a nice app, more info: $1 . But i want to take notes now!

End of P.S.

Hi, I was looking at some free, open source note taking apps for pc, and as much as i hate to say it: they all were shit for accessibility.

Can someone recommend something free, open source ?

Thanks!

Google Docs works well. It is not specifically for notes but it has several great tools and super easy way to make headings and lists.

Not what i want at the moment, but can you maybe share your workflow ? for example how do you navigate throu headings ?

When you have headings just get out of forms mode and just use the h key to navigate headings or use the number row to navigate through heading levels 1 through 6.

I use NVDA so not sure if forms mode and browse mode have the same name in JAWS.

"get out of forms mode "

How to do this?

I'm not a big writer so every tip is welcomed :)

Using NVDA at least it is NVDA key and space. Not sure about JAWS.

I use one note it’s made by Microsoft. It’s not open source but it works well for me it has a phone app and Mac/ pc integration. I really like that I can access it on all my devices

Microsoft To-Do works great and has similar features to the one you linked. It works well with TalkBack, but I haven't tried the PC version.

Microsoft todo is a todo app, not so much a notes app, nor is it open-source :)

On Linux, I've had good results with Cherrytree, which unfortunately doesn't work well on Windows. I've been playing with TiddlyWiki which is quite obscure but just like OP, I haven't found a tool for this rather basic pursuit that's actually ...you know ... good / productive / accessible.

Microsoft OneNote, if you can deal with their somewhat ...interesting ... way of doing things, might be another option.

I do not agree with their terms 🤷 Opened OneOne once now I'm getting login screens everyday...

The main feature I'm interested in is categorizing.
